Some of my fellow jewelry makers love eye pins and headpins made of monels. They claim that this jewelry material won’t get corrosion and rusted over time.
However, from what I’ve read monel is created by combining zinc and nickel and nickel is known to cause allergy to jewelry users.
It’s kind of strange realizing this fact, the gemstone store keepers always warn the buyers not to buy nickel contained findings but at the same time they suggest using monels.
For me, it’s safer to use metal, brass, or sterling silver findings that contain no nickel for making jewelry materials such as eye pins, rings, and head pins.
