When you do scrapbooking, either digitally or manually, you would want to add varied embellishments to your works.
Manually you can do it by adding plastic buttons, iron pieces, woods, dried flowers, etc. However, you can also make use of Photoshop software to create ‘real-like’ embellishments. The difference is if you use Photoshop to do it, you will have to print the embellishments first before applying them on your scrapbook creations.
For example, you can make a flower decoration using free Photoshop brushes. If you print it right away, you will only get two dimensional black and white flower. To solve it, you can apply Photoshop styles that will change it into three dimensional and seems made of different material such as puffy paint or felt.
Besides using Photoshop styles, you can also use Photoshop actions to get the same result. However, the method is slightly different where Photoshop actions are usually predefined by their makers to create same effects automatically. For example if you use Photoshop action to create ‘stitched felt’ effect, you will have a stitched flower felt in the end of the process. With styles, usually there’s only one step at a time but actions collect many steps and run them all at a time.
Currently Photoshop actions are mostly created to edit photos such as editing the color tones, adding effects, and such. It’s very rare to find Photoshop actions for scrapbooking which is mainly used to transform an object into different kinds of materials, create scrapbook embellishments, and create background papers.
My favorite digital scrapbook wesbites where you can get Photoshop actions for scrapbooking are as followed;
Digital Design Boutique
Digi Scrap Supplies
