I have just made these no sew felt coasters using polyester felt fabrics and cutting dies. They are completely not sewn, I only used glue gun to attach the pieces one by one.
What I like about these coasters is the scalloped shape of the circles and the hole at the center of the circles. Furthermore, the eight petal felt flower inside the hole adds more cuteness to the coasters.
The arrangement of these felt coasters is as follow (from the base):
- Felt circle 1
- Felt circle 2
- Felt circle 3 (cut open at the center)
- Felt flower
I chose grey felt as the base of the coasters (felt circle 1) and mixed them with green and pink felts for combination. All of the felt circles were cut using Sizzix framelits scallop circle dies while the flower shapes were cut using one of My Favorite Things’ flower medley dies. The hole at the center was made by cutting felt circle 3 with another flower medley die right in the middle of it.
All of the parts of these felt coasters are attached using glue gun. I experienced a little difficulty while gluing felt circle 3 at felt circle 2 because the glue pulled away the sides. However, once they’re done I tried to use them for my drinks and they’re just great. The coasters looked very nice, especially when I used transparent glass.
The glue gun used in making these coasters don’t make the felt hard; they’re just as soft as normal felt sheets. However, if you use fabric glue, the felt will be hard and sturdy when it’s dry.
